earlier this year i learnt how to do the %26lt;picture in picture%26gt; through your brilliant forum. now i would like to try to go one step further, i have clip of my grandson filmed against a cream colour background [living room wall] i would like, if possible to delete this background and insert it on to another clip,this would be like the picture in picture option with only him imposed and not the clip within a square.[i have premier elements7+xp]the booklet i recieved with my purchase shows it being done with a green background on the box packaging[superman flying over the grand canyon] i have read the instructions over and over but cant seem to grasp it.would anybody be so kind enough to eplain how to do it. thank you in anticipationdeleting a solid background colour from...
If you've got Premiere Elements 7, it's easy. (And I tell you how in MY book on Premiere Elements, by the way!)



The process you're describing is basic Chroma Key. But version 7 includes a simplified version of it called Videomerge.



Here's a quick description of how to use it.



Make sure you're in timeline mode, not sceneline. Put the clip of the new background want to use on the Video 1 track. Then put the clip of your grandson directly above it on the Video 2 track.



The program will probably prompt you automatically to use Videomerge. If not, right-click on the clip of your grandson and select it.



It should automatically remove most of the cream background and replace it with your new background. Open the Properties panel for the grandson clip and fine tune the Videomerge adjustments until it looks natural.

steve, thanks very much for your help, sorry i couldnt try out yesterday,[we get 3 inches of snow in uk and the entire country grinds to a halt] anyway i have used videomerge as sugested and im almost there,the clip is showing on top of the background clip but is partly transparent,thus the background shows through.i would be very grateful for any sugestions as how to make the top clip more solid.

As I said, you'll need to fine tune it a bit.



Right-click on the top clip and select Show Properties. Then, in the Properties panel, click the little triangle to the left of the Videomerge listing to display its control settings. Try some adjustments and see if that fixes it.



If not, your background may be too close to the color of your foreground, and you may have to try using the Chroma Key effect instead. It works on the same principles, but its settings go deeper.
