PE7 Stacking of clips in 5.1 sound

When I use a HD project template with 5.1 sound, the clips all stack on each other in the sceneline view. I have to use a non-5.1 template to get the clips to come in as separate entities.



What is the reason or workaround for this.

This is the nature of the 5.1 setting, if you use it for non-5.1 clips.



This will also happen if you don't use the 5.1 setting but you add 5.1 clips.



For what it's worth, there's no value in using the 5.1 setting for non-5.1 clips because the program only outputs two-channel stereo anyway. The 5.1 setting is just to allow for input from 5.1 AVCHD.

What format is your video and audio?? If you are working with AVCHD with 5.1 audio then use the AVCHD 5.1 audio project preset and your clips will be visible in Sceneline mode. If your clips are Stereo then use a non 5.1 audio project preset and your clips will be visible in Sceneline mode. The problem occurs when you use the wrong project preset for the type of audio in your video.



When you choose an audio format for your project it will set the first three tracks to this format. If you use a clip which is not this audio format it will place it on track 4 and then multiple clips will not be visible in Sceneline mode... you will need to use Timeline mode.

I have a Canon HG20 and the imported files are in m2ts format. How do I tell what the sound format is from the clip? Is there metadata that can be read from the file menu?

From the specs I could find this is an AVCHD camcorder. But whether or not your audio is set to 5.1 or not is something you'll have to tell us.



(Although the fact that you're getting this behavior with the 5.1 setting seems to imply that it isn't.)

Did you ever figure out a solution? Are you able to import m2ts files from the HG20 into Premiere and fully edit them? I just bought an HG20 and am trying to figure out what my best option for editing them is.

As Paul says, Use the Timeline more and drag and drop the clips manually to the desired tracks.

The microphone for the HG20 is stereo only, so the the right template is the 'AVHCD HD 1080i' (without 5.1 sound) for 1440x1080 (XP, SP, or LP mode) or 'AVHCD Full HD 1080i' for 1920x1080 (MXP or FXP mode)

I also have the same issue where my video clips came from a Sony DCR-DVD905E model.聽 From my understanding, this model shoots video in DV widescreen mode.

When I use either the DV Widescreen or the DV Standard preset, I cannot drag videos on the 2nd sceneline box.聽 They sit on top of each other on the first box.

MPG files and sound format is dolby 5.1..

How does it perform in Timeline View? Scene View does do a ''stacking'' thing, but everything should be fine in Timeline.

There are also several threads with results similar to yours. Other than going to Timeline View, I do not recall any other solutions, but you might Seach for some of the others, as I might have either missed, or forgotten, some workarounds.
