Serious Error Shut Down when Burning DVD

When attempting to burn DVD, Premiere Elements 3.0 immediately says there has been a serious error and program must shut down. Video was captured from camcorder, is about 12 minutes, just a couple of scene buttons on scene menu. Using an HP 2.4 ghz quad-core PC with 3 GB ram. I'm using DVD burner in other programs with no problem.

Tried all 3 steps to no avail.



1. Created pure avi file....same error message when I clicked Burn DVD.



2. No Share/Output/Disk option in Premiere Elements 3.0. To burn to folder, must either select Burn Disk first, or Export to DVD before the option to burn to folder is presented....but either of those steps lead to error message and shut down



3. I have a 2.4ghz quad core PC, with 3GB of RAM and over 400GB disk space available...recently defragged....only a 12 minute video (no stills)...so I don't think power or capacity is an issue.

I look forward to hearing the results of your computer maintenance. Especially after you've ensured you have the latest drivers and firmware for your Vista SP1 or XP SP3 operating system.



I'm also assuming, from what you've said, that that 400 gigs of free space is on your C drive and that it has been properly formatted to NTFS.

I have verified or updated the drivers for DVD burner, graphics card and sound card. The 400 available gigs is the total of two internal drives. I use one of the drives solely for video, and it has 282 gigs free. Both hard drives are formatted to NTFS.

Attempted to burn a short 15 second video...same result with Premiere Elements....serious error message and shut down.



Tested same 15 second video with Roxio MyDVD and DVD burn was successful.



I would use the MyDVD program for my larger project, but I would prefer Premiere Elements where I have already created the DVD menus and buttons.

Premiere Elements does not like Roxio. I had a horrible time trying to burn a DVD in Premiere Elements until I uninstalled Roxio and made sure none of the files mentioned in the following post were deleted:

Uninstalled Roxio Drag to Disc, and made sure specified files removed,

still get same error message.

You didn't happen to run the Roxio MyDVD application after uninstalling Drag-to-Disc? Roxio has in my case and might in your case copy the offending files back if the installation files are on your hard drive, which might happen if you have the download version. Just make sure those offending files weren't copied back. And reboot Windows.

No..I tried Premiere Elements again and haven't run Roxio since.

I used to be able to burn DVD's, but haven't tried again until recently, and I have no idea what may be causing this problem. I was thinking about upgrading to the new version of Premiere Elements before this problem arose, and now I'm hesitant to do so since I don't know if this same problem will persist after shelling out for the new version.

Success---I followed some troubleshooting links and the one that worked was as follows:



4. Re-create the Premiere Elements PluginCache.



The PluginCache is a Windows registry entry that contains information regarding the status of all native and third-party plug-ins used with Premiere Elements. To re-create the file, hold down the Shift key while choosing Start %26gt; Programs %26gt; Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0. Release the key when the Select Initial Workspace window appears.

You might want to drop by the Encore forum and do a search on ''Roxio.'' It is a lot more difficult to remove completely, than would initially seem. I think that Neil Wilkes, Jeff Bellune or Ruud Blauw wrote an article detailing every step necessary. A lot more than just Add/Remove Programs.

I had this problem until I read on another forum that you can disable all other CD-ROM drives in Windows device manager, leaving the DVD burner the only one active.聽 This prevented the crash on clicking the burn to Disc button (PE7).聽聽 I'm not sure of what the underlying cause of this is, though.
