Hi all,
So thank you for all the previous help I had received so far! I am new in that video capturing and processing world. I would like to tell you first what I have got. I have Canon HF11 and I am working on Windows XP platform, I have Adobe Premiere Elements 7 full version and Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 trial and Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium CS3.3 full version installed. My computer is somewhat on the older side Laptop Dell Inspiron with 1.8 GHz and 2gig of ram and I think it has only 128mb of video. The camera is able to record in full HD /AVHDC format. What I need to do is use the recording on the camera convert it to a format I can work on my old computer with cut the recording to my liking, sound, effect and etc and than use the footage on a website, blog and also have it formatted so I can burn it onto DVD for TV viewing. Here is my question please a) what software to you recommend using for the conversion? b) What would be the ideal work flow in that scenario? And c) I am going to purchase (down the road) a new computer this time it will be MacPro what should be a good configuration if there is any advice in that department? It is very frustrating and it feels like I have been since I got the camera (two weeks ago) more researching and downloading trial versions of programs that doing the actual work on my films. The last software that I bought and got stuck with is AVS video converter from avs4you.com.
Many thanks,
Robert

Robert, you're going to find a number of challenges working on a laptop with those specs. It's barely got enough power to run the program and, unless you've got an unusually large hard drive for that processor, you likely don't have the hundreds or so gigs of free space you'll need to do any significant editing.
But, if you don want to edit from that HDV camcorder, you can downsample video from the camcorder and it will certainly be more manageable for your system. The FAQs at the top of this forum tell you how.

As for a MacBook Pro, my advice is to go with the larger monitor version, get lots of hard drive space (ideally at least 250 gig, to start) and then spring for a version of Final Cut Express (about $200). I system like that is likely to set you back several thousand dollars, but it should definitely meet your editing needs.
(If you're willing to work on a desktop rather than a laptop, you can probably get enough technology for half the price on an iMac.)
Please help me with software and...
Steve,
Thank you for your advice on that. I am wondering what software you would suggest that I could use to downgrade my recording and to use after in PE7. I have 2 hard drives each 500 GB. So storage shouldn't be too much of an issue. I am finding out that there are so many formats out that I have no clue where I should start first. For example started with the trial version of UpShift from NewBlueFX that worked but only the files were still quiet power-hungry, so then I used AVS Video converter and converted my .m2ts files from the camera into .avi files but then come to find out that I can not import them into PE7. Why I dont know? I guess after reading I found out that avi files are not editable in PE7 because this format is not meant for editing in the first place? So what files are supposed to be the right fit? Anyway I guess I am asking here for too many questions at once. I will explore more but if anyone has some pointers to shorten my trip that would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Robert
I'm not sure what you mean by ''downgrade my recording''.
However, the FAQs at the top of this forum offer information on the best devices for capturing video to your computer.
