i bought the software at staples,

it was that adobe PhotoShop Elements and Premier Elements pack

the PS worked but not the PE

Why is that?



i turned off my anti virus and i closed all adobe apps



someone help please



i tried downloading the trial version becus i knew that we could input a serial number but it doesnt take mine



so yeah

yeah

i got the software disc right

and i tried installing it

but as soon i put it in nothing happend

i took it out and put it bak in but nothing again

its like theres nothing in there

then i tried running it by going to Run...

and i typed autorun.exe and setup.exe

but i only got error messages.

then i tired going to properties under the actual drive but it only says please insert disk or something like that and then the disk tray pulls out automatically

is it cus its a dvd type thing

i know i had a problem like that with one of my games

Is your drive a CD only drive? You will need a DVD drive to install and also to export, if you wish to create DVD's.



Go to Control Panel%26gt;System%26gt;Hardware%26gt;Device Manager%26gt;DVD/CD-ROM drives and look at your drive. What does Windows say about it?

Yup, Hunt is right, almost everything Adobe comes on a DVD these days.



You can probably contact Adobe tech support and they can give you a link to download the software, then you can run it from your hard drive instead. But without a DVD burner you won't be able to create any DVDs anyway. Besides, they are pretty cheap these days.

yes my computer can run dvds

i tried it before once

only once though,

i was like y watch dvds here when i can watch them in my room

plus i hardly watch dvds anyway i only watch what i make after completing it



anyway my computer does play dvds and i also burned a dvd but only once i never could get it to burn anything after that only cds



any more ideas im dying to try it already

Sounds like the DVD drive is really having problems, may need to be replaced. How old is the computer and the DVD drive?

Do you happen to have any ''packet-writing'' software installed? This can be Roxio, Nero or even Window's CD writing module. Do you use Quicken (the accounting program, or similar) to backup to CD?



The reason that I ask is that these can ''hook'' your drive, and some, if setup initially to work with CD will basically make your DVD drive look like a CD only drive.



What did Control Panel%26gt;System show for that drive in the Properties tab? My guess is that, for whatever reason, your OS now thinks that it is a CD only drive.

Packet-writing software is usually a module of a larger suite of programs, like Nero, or Roxio. It allows for a CD, or DVD to be treated like a virtual hard drive, in that you can drag-n-drop, or directly copy files to it from My Computer/Windows Explorer. Roxio calls their's DLA, and Nero calls their's InCD. Some progrmas, like Quicken will use the Windows included packet-writing software, that normally stay dormant, until used. Once used on a drive, it will set that drive up specifically for the application that called it. We just found out that Quicken will call the Windows packet-writing module to write to CD's in a drive that handles both CD %26amp; DVD. Once this is done, Windows will only see that drive as a CD drive and treat it like a virtual hard drive, i.e. the drive, so long as Quicken is around, will not work with DVD's again. The way around this would be to install a CD only drive, and point Quicken, which will point Windows, to it and NOT to a CD/DVD drive.



That is why I asked how your System (Windows) saw your particular drive. If it now only sees it as a CD drive, then something has definitely ''hooked'' it.



Nero %26amp; Roxio usually only mess up Adobe products, when you go to write a DVD, and not during install.

I'm having the same problem, but I think my office PC is only a CD ROM. Is it possible to copy the DVD to my portable external drive and install the software that way?

It's worth a try.



Although, if you've only got a CD_ROM, I wonder if your computer is up to spec so that you can run this program. Are you confident you've got enough power, hard drive space and RAM?

If the answer to Steve's questions is yes, to all, then I would use your external, BUT I would copy all installation files over to your HDD, before you launch the executable file (probably Setup.exe).



Do think about Steve's questions first, as PE on an underpowered computer will be nothing but problems. The FAQ's list equipment recommendations. Have a look at all of those too.

Well, I did it and it worked just fine.

Thanks for the suggestions, Bill. The PC is a bit older (no DVD), but it's been beefed up enough to run the program.

Glad you got it installed and going. External DVD burners are really cheap nowadays. If you have one of several connections: FireWire, USB 2, eSATA, etc. available, you might look into one.



If you are also doing a Capture from your mini DV tape camera via FireWire, make sure to unplug your DVD burner, unless you know that each FW connection is on a separate controller chip, or you could have a conflict.



Also, most DVD buners come with Nero or Roxio, or similar. If you install these programs, make sure that you do a Custom install and do

b NOT

install any packet-writing modules, like InCD, or DLA. These will keep Adobe products from seeing and using your burner. I also do

b NOT

install any ''indexing'' modules from either of these. You can have them on your system, but just not with the packet-writing modules, that

b WILL

be installed with the default installation. Once they are on your system, they are tough to get rid of. Just a warning.
