Question For Those Who Import Directly...

Hello,

I am looking to buy a new standalone DVD recorder because Premiere Elements won't import directly (rip) from discs recorded using my Panasonic recorder. I would like to ask a question of you who import video into Premiere Elements directly From DVD (recorded using a standalone DVD recorder).

Would you please tell me which DVD recorder you use and if the ripping results are consistent? The ony recorder brand that I know works for sure is Philips, but I've had two, and they didn't last long at all.

This would help me tremendously.

Thanks a bunch,

M
Question For Those Who Import Directly...
Well, one is as good as the other. (Though Toshiba and Panasonic are probably the more reliable brands.)

Although importing video from DVDs is probably not the best way to work with Premiere Elements. (It involves lots of rendering and some other special considerations.)

The ideal solution is a DV bridge, like the ADS Pyro AV Link. This device takes any input (camcorder, DVR player, DVD player, whatever) and ports it into your computer as DV-AVIs, the ideal format for use with this program. You can pick one up for about $100-150.

Here's more information on DV bridges, from the FAQs at the top of this forum.

Question For Those Who Import Directly...
Hi Steve, thanks for the tip. I will definitely consider the ADS Pyro AV Link. However, the problem with that is that my DVD recorder and my computer are not in the same room, and it's a mighty hassle to carry it back and forth. That's why I prefer ripping from DVD. My Philips machines worked flawlessly in that respect.

It's a shame that my Panasonic doesn't work with PE, because otherwise it's a good machine (though it won't do auto chapters).

Thanks,

Mike

Michael,

What problem are you having importing from your Panasonic DVD. I also have a Panasonic DVD Recorder that I capture TV and Camcorder videos on then burn them on a DVD. When I RIP them into Premier I get only short clips from each VOB file but not the entire section. I was wondering if this is the same issue you are having??

Thanks

David

You can overcome that issue by using this technique for combiining the VOB files before bringing them into PE7:

Hi David,

I use the DMR-ES15. What Panasonic do you use? The issue I am experiencing is that when I import the dvd video into PE, the entire bottom half of the screen is completely green, like a chroma key backdrop or something.

Thanks,

Mike

Thank you Paul LS

That worked perfectly.

David
