Premiere Elements 7 - audio question

I have purchased the above programme and want to make composite dvds of footage taken on holiday and to add some of the more intersting clips to Youtube.



I've worked out how to edit the clips and add them to Youtube but I can't find a way to remove unwanted audio (people talking and/or other background noise) from the clips.



Can anyone advise me on what I need to do, please?

I'm not sure what you're looking for, Helen.



You can easily lower and turn off the audio for certain clips -- but you can't really take audio of a scene and somehow make some voices louder and other noises quieter, if that's what you're asking.

I'd like to able to remove all the original sound from the clips(some the people who travelled with me would be horrified if their verbal ramblings were broadcast world wide!)and replace it with some simple commentary/narration of my own e.g. 'this is the amphitheatre at Leptis Magna etc etc'



Is that possible?

It definitely is. There are actually many ways to do it, including ways to just turn it down a bit or to lower it so that narration can be heard and then raise it back up to normal.



The easiest way to remove the audio is to right-click on each clip on the timeline and select Delete Audio.



You can then record narration and music and place it on one of the available audio tracks.

Well, I can now delete the original audio track and record my 'narration' but when I transfer the clip to Youtube there's no sound at all. What am I doing wrong/not doing at all?

PS I would love to be able to attend a course that teaches 'new' users how to master PE. The manual is helpful but isn't as good as one on one training for brand new users.

Not exactly a course, per se, but www.muvipix.com has many tutorials, and articles on most common uses of PE. Many are geared towards the new users, and step up to some advanced editing methods. You might want to take a look at it. Many of the contributors here, also post there.

I have a few suggestions -



First a general suggestion recommending the book written by Steve for Premiere Elements 7 and mentioned in message 8. I sometimes have that book in one hand and my mouse in the other hand.



Second, when you start Premiere Elements there is a logon for Photoshop.com where you can find tutorials under the Inspiration browser. There is a tutorial titled ''Create and Adjust Video Clip Voiceover'' that seems to me to be what you are attempting to do.



However, if you are unable to immediately access that tutorial you can also ask specific questions here or in the muvipix.com forums.



That tutorial says

Perhaps your current problem is that you have your sound file but have not added it to a track in your project?

(there may be other possible tracks than the narration track so perhaps Steve or Hunt can comment on that point)

i have added an a song to my timeline on my opening creds.

when the cred end i want to continue playing the song but very quietly so i can put some narration on top. how would i go about doing this using adobe premiere cs2

Probably similarly to Premiere Elements. Use audio keyframing, as described in the FAQs at the top of this forum.

You can also set the levels using the Audio Mixer as the video is playing.

thanks! me again, is there a way i can pause the camara shot. like for instance i want the person in the frame to say something and then the shot to be paused for about 5 seconds while i put narration on top. can this be achieved or should i stop trying

That easy. Use Freeze Frame, the camera icon at the bottom of the Monitor.

Back to your FLV to MPEG question. I use a little freeware program, FLV to AVI. It does batch processing and will output to .AVI, or .MPG. Take a look at:

To date, it has worked very well. I do wish that it allowed the use of the MS DV-AVI format CODEC, Lagarith or HuffYUV, directly, but then it is freeware. For editing purposes, the closer you can get to DV-AVI, the better you will be. Still, I can output (as lightly compressed as is possible) and then convert to DV-AVI in another program. I use DigitalMedia Converter, which is shareware, from DeskShare.



Unfortunately, the FLV's have probably been sized way down to begin with and getting them into a DVD-based Project might not yield good results, once scaled back up. Only you can judge the quality. Still, sometimes one has to use footage, which is not ideal and live with the results.
