PRE7_Cont_ ....7z produces Open With

I dl'd both:

PRE7_WWEFGH.7z

RE_Cont_WWEFGJ.7z

I successfully installed PRE7 by double clicking the PRE7_WWEFGH.7z file.

But when I tried to install the Content files, by double clicking the PRE_Cont_WWEFGJ.7z file, a pop up asks ''Open with''.

I read that all I needed to do was ''extract the files'' but isn't 7z self extracting; why else did the install work?

Does this help?

Actually, now that I look at it, it probably won't.

7z files are zipped files. Try right-clicking on it and selecting the Extract option.

Also, be sure you've unzipped the main Premiere Elements file too before you try to install it. If you try to install from within the zip file, you'll have problems with the installation.

Steve,

Sorry about the delay; I didn't get an e-mail notification that my post was responded to. Need to check out why.

But, in response you your suggestion. There is no right click ''extract'' option. I use ''PowerDesk'' and there is no extract option for that file type either.

I don't understand about 7z sip files. I thought they were self extracting. The PE application installed when I clicked the PRE7_WWEFGH.7z file; it didn't need extracting. Why wouldn't the content file work the same way?

I don't know.

It's probably worth a call to Adobe Tech Support.

Mike,

You can get the 7zip file utility online. IIRC, it's freeware. It works just like WinZIP, and when installed will be associated with 7zip files. I *thought* that Windows Explorer would Extract 7zip files, but might be wrong there. Google should yield a dozen sites to get it. Tucows would be one of my first choices, as they have legit files with few pop-ups, etc.

The only self-extracting archive formats that I know are .exe files. Though I have 7zip on an old laptop, I have only used it once and seldom run across this format of archived file. That's why my memory is a bit cloudy.

Good luck,

Hunt

Thanks for your suggestion.

I contacted Adobe was told to dl the EXE file by the same name; that extracts the 7z file and installs it's Content.

Mike,

Thanks for that update. As I nearly always purchase a box-n-disk program, I only see articles in the forums on using the download versions.
