No Video When Importing AVI

Hi,

Does anyone know why certain avi files which work fine outside of PE 7 import into PE 7 as audio files without video?

Thanks,

Mik
No Video When Importing AVI
Michael,

Most likely these AVI files are using a CODEC that is either not set up on your system, or that PE does not like. Use the freeware program, G-Spot (www.headbands.com/gspot) to tell what CODEC is used, and whether you have it installed.

This is common behavior for AVI files using either the DivX, or Xvid, CODEC's. If so, you will do best to convert these to DV-AVI files outside of PE.

Good luck,

Hunt
No Video When Importing AVI
Hi Hunt,

Thanks a lot for the reply. I've run a check using the program you linked to, and it said the avi file uses H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, and that it is installed on my system, so PE must not like the codec.

Thanks

Mike

Hi Hunt,

I used a different codec, and it works fine. Thanks for all your help.

Mike

Actually, I looked at the avi I did with a different codec and while it did import with video, the video is crummy.

What code would you suggest?

Thanks,

Mike

The DV codec.

The program is built around a DV-AVI workflow, and this is the ideal video file format to use with it.

Thanks!

I'm having a difficult time finding a program to convert vob to avi successfully.

I wanted to use HandBrake to convert VOB to avi, but DV AVI is not one of the codecs it uses, and the codec it does use doesn't work with PE.

I tried using mpeg stream Converter for converting my vob files, but the program gives me the message ''unsupported file type''.

The program SUPER only had the 5:4 aspect ratio and 720x526 screen res options available.

I tried Yasa (or something like that) and the settings made it seem like it would work, but it never began converting.

iSofter DVD Platinum doesn't allow for use of the DV codec.

Have you seen this FAQ, from the FAQs at the top of our forum?

You might give Quicktime Pro a try. I use it, but it's not free ($30).

Hi Steve,

Yes, I read that. I tried mpeg streamclip, but it gave me the ''unsupported file type''. In my previous post, I called the program ''Mpeg Steam Converter'' by accident. Sorry about that.

Thanks for the tip, anyway.

Mike

HI E Mann,

Thanks for the tip. I had a liocense for that years ago, but I don't remember what I did with it. I'll look into the new version, and let you know how it turns out.

Thanks!

Mike

MPEG_StreamClip will recognise MPEG files. Did you download and install the Quicktime Alternative 1.8.1 or lower as detailed in the instructions?.

If you log into the Apple store there should be a record of the purchase along with the key. Although if it's been awhile I'm not sure of the versioning.

Hi Paul,

I downloaded and installed the alternative (1.81) and still get the ''file type not supported'' error message.

I am thinking that there must be something wrong with vob files recorded with my Panasonic.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi E Mann,

It seems that version 7 has been around for years, so I think I have it. I'll try to log into the store.

Thanks,

Mike
