I have been using PE4 with my mini DV camera with success. A relative has a new Sony Hi Def camera. I want to know if I can take some of his clips and produce a Di Def Movie. I already know that I will need to buy a blue ray burner and player. Do I have the right software? And what would be the minimum computer requirements?

Hi Definition with PE4
You need to be sure that the Sony Hi Def camcorder is HDV recording to mini DV tape and not AVCHD recording to memory stick or hard drive. PE4 will handle HDV but not AVCHD... you would need PE7 for AVCHD and a very powerfull procossor. HDV can be edited with a fast single core but ideally with a dual core processor. What is your current computer spec?
Hi Definition with PE4
Paul,
His camera records to a hard disk. So I guess you are saying I need PE7, right?
My computer is a thninkpad T60 with a dual processor:
Processor x86 Family 6 Model 14 Stepping 8 GenuineIntel ~1828 Mhz
Processor x86 Family 6 Model 14 Stepping 8 GenuineIntel ~1828 Mhz
Is that enough power?
Cliff
You can edit AVCHD with that processor, I dont think it will be a smooth playback from the timeline while editing however. May be worth downloading the trial version and giving it a go. PE4 and PE7 can live on the same computer without issue so no need to uninstall PE4..
OK. I'll try it.
What do the abreviations HDV and AVCHD stand for?
''High Definition Video'' which is MPEG2 based and ''Advanced Video Codec High Definition'' which is MPEG4 based. The latter is more highly compressed and requires more processor power to play/edit smoothly.
Thanks again.
Cliff
