Where do you expect a AVCHD with 5.1 channel sound to end up when it is dragged to the Premiere Elements 7 Timeline with the project preset beforehand set to one of the AVCHD 5.1 channel project presets:
a. Video Track 1 and Audio Track 1
or
b. Video Track 4 and Audio Track 4
On the other hand, where do you expect a AVCHD with 2 channel sound to end up when it is dragged to the Premiere Elements 7 Timeline with the project preset beforehand set to one of the AVCHD 5.1 channel project presets:
a. Video Track 1 and Audio Track 1
or
b. Video Track 4 and Audio Track 4
I suspect that the answer to the second part is ''b'', but it is not clear to me what the answer is in the first case.
AVCHD Expected Timeline Track Locations
For the former, 5.1 clips (video plus audio) should go to track 1 in a 5.1 project.
For the latter, stereo clips (video and audio) should go to track 4 in a 5.1 project.

Thanks for the response. Much appreciated. I had some AVCHD with 2 channel sound, but none with the 5.1 channel sound, so I could not try that latter out myself.
Thatr's right AT,
Using 5.1 in Premiere Elements 7.0 can be a little tricky.
Difference in behavior is also observed when you drag a clip or you right click and say ''insert to timeline''.
So one needs to be careful.
Hope that helps.
Cheers!
Daniel.
